Why Most Digital Transformation Projects Fail
After watching dozens of digital transformation projects across MENA banks, I've identified a pattern: the projects that fail share remarkably similar characteristics.
1. Technology-first thinking. Banks buy platforms before defining what problem they're solving. The technology becomes the goal rather than the enabler.
2. Underestimating change management. New systems require new processes, new skills, and often new mindsets. Banks budget for software but not for the human side of transformation.
3. No executive air cover. When the inevitable obstacles arise, projects without genuine C-suite sponsorship stall.
"Digital transformation isn't a technology project. It's a business transformation enabled by technology."
The banks that succeed treat digital transformation as a strategic initiative, not an IT project. They invest in people as much as platforms.
